Learn and teach your children the hand-washing habit

Nowadays, proper hand-washing is thought to be the number one means of preventing infections, avoiding disease and minimizing the transmittal of germs. In view of this, it is extremely important that all members of the family wash their hands and that children be taught to do so on their own. Doctors recommend the following: Wet your hands (preferably with hot or warm water). Take soap, (bar or liquid) and rub it on until you form a film that covers the whole hand (fingers and between fingers). Continue rubbing for 20 seconds. Rinse well and wipe dry. Some doctors, in addition to washing their hands, recommend the use of an anti-bacterial gel. There are many recommended brands and they suggest that their patients use them at home.Keeping your hands clean when you touch your baby and when you are cooking greatly lessens allergens and increases prevention of illness and bacteria . The United Nations General Assembly declared October 15 World Hand-washing Day because of its importance in reducing infections throughout the world.
